I’m currently in a class learning to be a children’s book writer and my assignment is a how to. I am taking the class cause I love to write fantasy stories. And I am required to open up my mind in other writing forms but I am just having a writers block. I can’t think of anything to write about. The age level is 8-12. Please if you have any ideas that would be great.

Children that age love action and adventure with someone their age or slightly older. The relationship between the characters is important.
The stories my fourth graders have enjoyed were about a boy and his family experiencing a hurricane. In the story, his family survives and a huge tree that he loves to climb. Other plots: A girl and her mom (the pilot) experience landing gear problems. A boy is fishing for his family, steps on a stingray and his pet dolphin helps him.
They love plays about crazy characters or children like themselves. We read a play about a magic show and another about funny pirates. The mean pirate releases prisoners in exchange for chocolate pudding.
